The Sun reports that Zinedine Zidane recently called Jose Mourinho to dispel the sir. Lately, there have been a lot of rumours about the managerial hot-seat at Old Trafford and Zidane is a hot favourite to replace the Portuguese (h/t Sun).

However, the prolific Frenchman was worried that Mourinho might think he is plotting a move behind his back and hence, called him to clear the air (h/t Sun).

The report adds that Zidane’s representatives have only asked if he is interested in the job, meaning nothing concrete has been decided yet.

The former Real Madrid manager resigned his job at the Spanish capital at the end of last season, despite winning the Champions League for the third time in succession.

Mourinho has been under immense pressure after United’s loss against West Ham. The Sun says that the Portuguese has only a week left to save his job.

We face Valencia midweek before taking on Newcastle United before the international break.

Zidane’s decision to contact Mourinho has left the current United manager believing that the club are keeping options ready, should there be an opening at Old Trafford. (Sun)
