Luke Shaw believes Jose Mourinho was right to criticize him and added the manager was key to his return to the side.

Shaw has played every minute of our campaign this season and even scored a goal on opening day against Leicester City.

However, the English defender did struggle to get into the Manchester United team under Mourinho and the manager has been critical of his performances in the past, as per Sky Sports.

Shaw claimed that Mourinho knew he could do better and was quoted by Sky Sports as saying:

“I think he got frustrated with me because he knew I could do better. When I look back, maybe he was right.

“It was a tough few years but it made me stronger mentally. I wanted to prove to him I can do what he said I couldn’t.

“I had a chat with the manager before the season and he said he wanted me to stay.”

The former Southampton man further claimed that he wants to prove his worth to the side and stay.

“I’ve matured. You could say I’ve gone from a kid to a man. I know what I need to do to push myself. I want to play for Manchester United, stay there and prove my worth to the team.”

England face Spain and Switzerland in the international break and Shaw might start for the Three Lions in one of the games.

The English defender has turned his career around at Old Trafford and we are seeing another side of him.
