The Mirror reports that Jose Mourinho told Manchester United not to make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo when the Portuguese superstar decided to leave Real Madrid.
Ronaldo joined Juventus in the summer and the report claims that Mourinho wanted to sign defensive reinforcements instead of the attacker.
The report adds that Mourinho did not see sense in signing Ronaldo for a fee of £90million and paying him £500,000-a-week.
The move didn’t work out for the Red Devils as we failed to sign a central defender. The report claims that United could not sign Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire or Diego Godin.
United have struggled this season with losses against Tottenham and Brighton & Hove Albion, and their attack has not clicked.
Ed Woodward was ready to splash the cash on the 33-year-old and bring him back to Old Trafford, as per the report.
Things are set to be emotional as Ronaldo is set to face United in the Champions League. The other teams in the group are Valencia and Young Boys.
The report concludes by claiming that Mourinho is still upset with the lack of signings from the United management. We only brought in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant while most of our rivals strengthened their sides.
Ronaldo joining the Red Devils would have made our attack one of the best in the world. However, a lack of signings should not be used as an excuse for the poor start to the season.
United have quality all around and Mourinho has to get the best out of the crop of players and get our season back on
track.
