Lukaku and Sanchez star but who flopped? Man Utd player ratings from 2-0 win over Burnley

Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Burnley. The win certainly came at an important time as we had lost our previous two games.

The win was secured thanks to a brace from Romelu Lukaku, with Alexis Sanchez starring for us as well.

There was some drama for our team as Paul Pogba’s penalty was saved in the second half. United were also reduced to 10 men in the 71st minute as Marcus Rashford picked up a red card. But Burnley could not take advantage despite us being a man down.

United did have some heroes as we picked up three points at Turf Moor and here are the player ratings for the Red Devils.

David de Gea – 6/10

The Spaniard was barely tested in the afternoon and had a much better outing when compared to his previous two games.

Antonio Valencia – 7/10

The South American had a decent game for United as he ran up and down the right side of the pitch and put in a few decent crosses.

Chris Smalling – 7.5/10

This was a much better performance from the Englishman when compared to the shambles that he put up against Tottenham.

Victor Lindelof – 7/10

Lindelof was better alongside Smalling as we kept a clean sheet, our first of the season, at Turf Moor.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw – 8/10

The Englishman is only getting better with each game under his belt. Shaw was responsible for the second goal and perhaps a two-week international break is coming at the wrong time.

Paul Pogba – 5/10

This was another off performance from the French midfielder as he wasted a penalty which should have made the game easier for us.

Manchester United midfielder Fellaini.

Marouane Fellaini – 7/10

Fellaini did his job well as he stayed back and protected the back four from the Burnley attackers.

Nemanja Matic – 6.5/10

This wasn’t the greatest performance from the Serbian but Matic did well in an advanced role in the middle of the park.

Jesse Lingard – 7.5/10

Lingard didn’t get a goal but his movement and link-up play with the rest of the team kept Burnley guessing all afternoon.

Romelu Lukaku – 8.5/10

Lukaku should have completed his hat-trick in the second half but wasted the best chance of the night. That is the only reason he doesn’t get a higher score.

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez – 8.5/10

Sanchez was great in both the goals as his chip found Lukaku for the first and his neat flick released Shaw to cross the ball in for the second goal.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford – 3/10

An inexcusable performance as Rashford picked up a red card for leaning into Phil Bardsley after coming on as a sub.

Ander Herrera – 6/10

A decent performance from the Spaniard as he kept things tight in the midfield.

Eric Bailly – NA

The defender was brought on in added time but couldn’t provide a telling contribution to the game.
