Paul Scholes hit back at Manchester United star Paul Pogba’s comments after the 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Although Pogba scored a late penalty against the Seagulls, United were second best on the pitch and went into half-time trailing 3-1 to Chris Hughton’s men.

Pogba was quoted by the Metro as claiming his attitude was not good enough and added that this result was a lesson for the side.

“My attitude was not right. It has to be a big lesson for us. They had more hunger than us. I put myself first, that my attitude wasn’t right enough. We made mistakes we shouldn’t make.”

Scholes reacted by claiming that there was “no defence” to the United captain’s post-match comments:

“There is no defence for that comment, there is no defence for it. You say it to yourself, don’t you? You’re constantly saying to yourself: ‘Attitude right, make sure it’s right.’

“You don’t need other people to tell you. You don’t need a manager to tell you that or your teammates.”

Pogba was not the only player who was below par against Brighton as most of the United players were not up for the game.

Hughton’s men were certainly hungrier than our players and this is a hugely embarrassing result just a couple of weeks into the Premier League campaign.

Pogba, however, has to take some of the blame for the performance, as the captain has to lead from the front. Hopefully, we will see a better performance from the team in our next match against Tottenham in a few days.
