Manchester United plot new left-back target but Real Madrid could spoil the party

Manchester United are interested in David Alaba, however, they now face competition from Real Madrid according to Transfermarketweb (h/t Express).

The Red Devils see the Austrian as an ideal signing for the left-back position, as both Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are not seen as good enough for the position.

Real have £105million in hand after selling Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus and are planning a squad overhaul, with Alaba being a player that they want.

The La Liga giants are ready to battle United for the signing of the Bayern Munich man and the report even claims that Marcelo could be a player to be sold by Madrid.

The 26-year-old Alaba played 36 games for the Bundesliga giants as they picked up the league title. He scored 2 goals and provided 4 assists in all competitions for the Bavarian club.

Alaba would certainly be a great left-back to have in the side as he is one of the best in the world. The Austrian is also known for his attacking ability, which would come in handy for United, as his pinpoint crosses would easily find Romelu Lukaku.

However, taking part in a bidding war against Real Madrid would not be the smartest move as they could blow us out of the water if they really want Alaba.

We could look at signing Marcelo if Real are willing to sell but he would be a stop-gap measure given that he is 30 at the moment.
