Manchester United have finally completed the signing of Brazilian Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk. A report from the BBC claims that the 25-year-old has moved to Old Trafford for a fee of £47m.

The Brazilian has become our second official signing this season, though the deal was more or less struck with the Ukrainian side a couple of weeks ago.

Fred plays mostly as a defensive midfielder and would provide us with quality in the heart of the park. The 25-year-old was happy to have moved to United and was quoted as saying:

“This is the biggest club in the world and I am delighted to be a part of this amazing team.

“To work with Jose Mourinho, who has won so many trophies in his time as a coach, is an opportunity not to be missed.”

Fred did not play in the 1-1 draw against Switzerland in Brazil’s opening match at the World Cup and had picked up a slight injury in training recently. But hopefully, he will be fit enough to take part in the next game.

Jose Mourinho was also pleased with the signing and stated that the “creative brain” and “passing vision” of the Brazilian will bring another aspect to the game at United.

Fred does seem to be a quality signing and hopefully, he leads us to a lot of trophies under Mourinho. This comes as the second signing of the season after Diogo Dalot and there should be a lot more to come in the coming days too.
