Mourinho upset over Premier League schedule favouring Liverpool’s Champions League journey

Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho is reportedly upset over how the Premier League fixtures favour Liverpool when it comes to matches after a Champions League tie.

The Times (h/t Metro) claims that the former Real Madrid manager is upset that the Reds will play six home games after their Champions League group matches this season when compared to just three by United.

The report further adds that Mourinho is angry with the decisions taken by the Premier League with regards to the allocation of matches and will bring up this issue during the season.

United’s first three matches in the Champions League will be followed by home games against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle United and Everton. Our next three European ties would be followed by away games against Manchester City, Southampton and Liverpool.

The Reds, for their part, face off against Southampton, Manchester City, Cardiff, Everton, Fulham and us after their six Champions League games at home.

It is only Liverpool who have got this favourable draw as Tottenham and Manchester City have three home and three away games after their Champions League outings.

This does seem like an anomaly given that the Premier League should balance the matches out so that no club has an advantage when they face each other in the Premier League.

If they want to give English clubs a proper chance of doing well, why not given home games for all clubs after the Champions League games? That would level the playing field and cause no issues for the managers.

However, we are one of the biggest clubs in the world and should be able to deal with these problems easily. It would be sweet when we beat Liverpool across the two matches and prove that there was no point in the fixtures favouring the Reds at all.
