Jose Mourinho has put the brakes on any move for Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The Spurs man had been linked with a £50million move to United after the World Cup, however, our manager has reportedly told Ed Woodward not to pursue the deal for now.

Mourinho does not want to bring in another left-back given that we signed Diogo Dalot and already have the likes of Ashley Young and Luke Shaw for the position.

There could be a move for the 27-year-old should United fail to sign some of their other targets or should Shaw be sold.

Rose is expected to be England’s first-choice left-back in Russia, however, he might have to stay at Spurs next season as Mourinho wants to bring in another central defender.

The English defender did not start too many games for Tottenham last season and only made 17 appearances for the club. In a way, this could be a great decision by Mourinho as adding more quality to some of the other positions is more important than getting Rose. The Englishman’s place in the Spurs team was even taken up by Ben Davies.

The 27-year-old is not a bad player but we do have Young, who has transformed into a left-back. Moreover, with Dalot and Shaw in the side, Mourinho will have a couple of decent options to use and there are high expectations of Dalot after his move from Porto.

Paying £50million for Rose is also a huge amount and we should spend that money elsewhere before the end of the transfer window.
