Manchester United have made their first signing of the summer as the club confirmed that Brazil international Fed has agreed to join them from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The club issued a statement which read:

“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos.”

The 25-year-old played for Brazil in the 2-0 win over Croatia at Anfield but did not speak out about joining the Red Devils.

The deal to sign the World Cup-bound star is expected to be worth around £50m and could be the first of many signings this summer as we need a lot of strengthening.

A big statement of intent from Manchester United

This certainly is one signing that will come good as the midfielder would give us a lot more bite in the centre of the park and also take some pressure off the midfield given that Michael Carrick has retired from the game.

Fred’s passing ability is great too and that could see us play with a lot more zip and start attacks quicker, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford up top.

Fred seemed to be one of the major targets for the side and signing him this quickly can only mean good things for the club. Hopefully, Fred has a great World Cup and comes back in good form ahead of the Premier League season.

Jose Mourinho might have a lot more planning to do but it always feels good when transfers are done quick and early rather than being dragged on for months many months.

Welcome to Manchester United, Fred!
