Manchester United interested in £25m raid for Southampton star

Ryan Bertrand

Ryan Bertrand could be on the move even if Southampton somehow avoid the drop and remain in the Premier League next season.

A report from The Sun (h/t Daily Star) claims that Manchester United could be looking to sign the 28-year-old if the player decides to move away from Southampton.

Bertrand could be seen as a replacement for Luke Shaw, as the youngster’s relationship with Jose Mourinho has deteriorated over the last few months.

However, the report also suggests that United would only be looking to sign the Southampton left-back should they fail to sign Danny Rose from Tottenham.

The Englishman was linked with a move away from Spurs in the summer but no move happened. Rose is said to be valued at £50m but Manchester United could launch a £25m raid for Bertrand.

The left-back moved to Southampton after a successful time with Chelsea, where he won the Champions League, the Europa League and the FA Cup.

The 28-year-old does have a deal with the Saints until 2021 and it could be difficult to sign the defender given how stubborn Southampton can be.

The Saints were reluctant to sell Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool in the summer but relented in the winter window and hopefully, we won’t have to see such a transfer saga with regards to Bertrand.
