Defender Victor Lindelof has hailed Manchester United’s display at both ends of the pitch against Swansea City on Saturday.
Jose Mourinho’s men returned from the international break with a bang as Romelu Lukaku bagged his 100th Premier League goal with Alexis Sanchez getting himself on the scoresheet to secure a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.
Lindelof played his part alongside Smalling and the duo helped United maintain shut-out. The Swede lauded De Gea after the goalkeeper made two exceptional saves to deny substitute Tammy Abraham in the second-half.
“Swansea had two good opportunities in the second half, but we had David De Gea in goal and like I always say he is a fantastic goalkeeper,” Lindelof told manutd.com.
“I think [those two saves] prove his quality. The opponent might not have much [shots at goal], but he is always ready when shots do come and always there to save them. He is a fantastic player.
“We always want to keep a clean sheet, that’s very important for us because if we keep a clean sheet, we know our attacking players can score goals.“
United scored twice in the opening 20 minutes and were cruising at one point of time against relegation-threatened Swansea.
In the second half, Mourinho’s men lacked a little bit of intensity and that saw Swansea grow into the game. Once the Red Devils were forced to call their goalkeeper into action, De Gea was up for the task.
The Spaniard first flew to his right-hand side to save Abraham’s powerful shot before getting down low to push the Swansea striker’s shot away for a corner.
With the 2-0 win over the Swans, De Gea has now kept his 16th clean-sheet in the season. He is arguably the best in his business at the moment and the club has to keep
hold him for many more years to come.
