“A mid table team without him” Manchester United fans react as star man gets CL player of the week nomination

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea produced another top-drawer performance as Jose Mourinho’s side drew 0-0 with Sevilla on Wednesday in the first leg of Champions League’s last 16 tie.

It was another night when De Gea stressed his importance to the club. Prior to the game, the headlines were grabbed by Paul Pogba, who was omitted from the first team for the second time in less than a month.

But after the 0-0 stalemate vs Sevilla, all the attention turned to United’s No1. De Gea was absolutely phenomenal for us yet again and was the pillar of strength alongside his defence when the attackers endured an off-day.

Sevilla had racked up 20 shots compared to United’s three in the 65 minutes that summed up the display by Mourinho’s side. And despite having 20 shots inside 65 minutes, United didn’t concede even once, thanks to the brilliance of De Gea.

Joaquin Correa first tested De Gea down to his left before the Spanish keeper produced his best stops of the match right at the end of the half to first deny Steven N’Zonzi, before astonishingly tipping Luis Muriel’s goal-bound header over the top of the bar.

The second-half saw Sevilla shoot from distance but never really looked like threatening United’s goal. And after the blow of the final whistle, the scoreline luckily read 0-0 at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan for all the travelling United fans.

And for all his brilliance in Seville, De Gea was picked for the Champions League Player-of-the-week award alongside the likes of Bayern’s Thomas Muller, Chelsea’s Willian and Shakhtar’s Fred.

Manchester United’s official Twitter account tweeted this, to which the fans hailed our No.1 but vented out the frustration regarding the team’s lacklustre display against Sevilla.

Here we bring you the best of tweets.
