David De Gea has said that he feels good amid speculation that he could join Real Madrid at the end of the season. Due to their disastrous La Liga form this season, Los Blancos are likely to undergo a squad overhaul at the end of the season and they are expected to replace first-choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas with a new world-class shot-stopper.

The Spanish giants have been strongly linked with De Gea as well as Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois. We almost lost De Gea to Madrid in 2015 in a deal which would have seen Navas come to us but fortunately, the deal did not go through.

Since then, the Spaniard has gone on to become one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world. Real have once again reignited their interest in De Gea. However, instead of focusing on what could happen in the future, he is choosing to concentrate on the present.

De Gea was quoted by Daily Star:

“Time flies by so quickly. I’ve been here seven years and I am happy. A lot has happened to me – some very good, some not so good, – but to be honest I am just really happy.

“I feel like an important player in the dressing room. I am one of the oldest in the team. It makes me happy to see the younger players coming through – and trying to make United big. Real Madrid? I don’t think it’s ever good to discuss the future or what may happen. Only the present, feeling well, playing well and helping United is important.”

It is unlikely that £200,000-a-week De Gea will ever really rule out the possibility of returning to his homeland. Furthermore, the possibility of playing for Madrid, who are one of the greatest teams in Spain as well as in world football is something which will always appeal to most footballers.

However, De Gea is one of the most respected players in our team and we will ideally need to keep him if we are to challenge for major silverware going forward.
