Spanish Football Expert Reveals Why Manchester United Will Not Sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo left United for Real Madrid

Manchester United have been keeping tabs on Cristiano Ronaldo for a number of years in hopes of bringing him back to Old Trafford. The Portuguese joined Real Madrid after a successful time in Manchester but it seems his relationship with the La Liga champions has broken down according to Guillem Balague.

The Spanish expert claims that Ronaldo could be off soon but stopped short of suggesting that the Euro 2016 winner would return to his beloved Manchester United. We are still being linked with a move for the attacker and with rumours of Florentino Perez not willing to give Ronaldo a new contract, the former United man is searching for a new home.

As quoted by the Express, Balague claims that we would not be signing Ronaldo simply because of his age, even though the Portuguese still has some fight left in him after a poor season so far.

“His people have put the word out about a possible return but the reality is that United do not want to get involved. They were interested towards the end of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign and during David Moyes’ time in charge, but it’s a different story now.

“That’s mostly because of Ronaldo’s age. He will turn 33 in February and his best days are clearly behind him, so it is difficult to justify the huge sums that would be involved in the deal. Of course, there is a romantic pull to having him back at Old Trafford, but the truth is that he does not fit the profile of a squad with an average age of just 26.”

Big Spending PSG Could Be Ronaldo’s New Home

The Spanish expert did claim that only PSG would be able to spend and sign the Portuguese legend. However, the French giants would have to part with one of their stars to get hold of Ronaldo.

“Of the other big clubs in Europe, only PSG could afford him with the figures his representatives would demand,” he added.

“But if that were to happen, Florentino would like Neymar in return. Real Madrid would be the only real winners in that swap.”

Balague also added that things could take a turn for the better if Ronaldo starts scoring more goals. The attacker only has 6 goals from 15 La Liga games but did score a brace in his last outing.

Should Ronaldo and Madrid win a trophy or two before the end of the season, a new contract would be on the table for the 32-year-old but we would all love to see the Portuguese put on the United shirt once more before he hangs up his boots for good, wouldn’t we?
