Manchester United legend gives his verdict on Sanchez’s next destination and it will not please the fans

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged Arsenal’s want-away superstar Alexis Sanchez to ditch Manchester United and move to Manchester City if he is keen on winning silverware.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were all over the Chilean during the summer transfer window and even submitted an official £60m bid, only to be left red-faced by Arsenal’s rejection. Things are utterly different right at this very moment as it seems like Sanchez is keen on making a move, while Manchester City are unwilling to pay Arsenal’s asking price of £35m.

Meanwhile, Manchester United entered the foray out of the blue. They are not willing to match Arsenal’s asking price but are working on offering him a better wage pack than what City are offering. Sanchez remains keen on not signing an extension at Arsenal and a deal can be expected soon. Wenger has already confirmed it.

But that’s not all it for Arsenal. There are reports that Arsenal might demand Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United in what would turn out to be a swap deal. As things stand for City right now, they have pulled themselves out of the deal as they are unwilling to match Arsenal’s demand and a £5m add-on that Sanchez’s agent is quoting.

All this has made Manchester United the front-runners. However, one of our former defenders, Rio Ferdinand, believes that Sanchez is better off moving to Manchester City rather than United, as chances of winning major silverware are more likely to come with Pep Guardiola.

“I was having this discussion with my old mates yesterday and today,” Ferdinand told BT Sport, as quoted by the Express.

“If he has an option now to go from Arsenal to Manchester City or Manchester United, as a footballer who wanted to win trophies and be judged on trophies, Manchester City looks like the place to go.

“They are top of the league and going to win the league this season. They are in the Champions League, they look like they will be in the final of the League Cup and the FA Cup as well potentially. So he’s got more opportunities to win trophies there.

“He knows Pep. He’s been with Pep and has more of an idea. If Pep wants him again now, I’m sure he’s thinking: ‘I’m going to go there second time round and do it properly this time.’

“As a professional, you’d have to say that the balance of power is starting to come back to an even keel almost and then going City’s way. You look at Manchester City and they’re so far ahead of everybody else, not just in points but in the way and style they play. They’re taking teams out before they even get on to the pitch.”

I have no clue as to why Ferdinand suggested this but I honestly feel that Sanchez would be wise if he chooses us over City. We have a vacant No.7 slot and it’s not without a reason. We do lack a winger in our team and Sanchez would be perfect for us.

What’s your take on Ferdinand’s verdict? Do you think he’s right?
