Ed Woodward ready to fund for two marquee signings but Jose Mourinho is not happy with the club’s hierarchy

Manchester United are not happy with manager Jose Mourinho because of his comments about the club not spending enough money in the transfer market.

The Portuguese boss has made no secret of his frustrations at United falling 15 points behind league leaders Manchester City, suggesting he doesn’t have the squad capable of challenging for the title. He even claimed the £260million he’s spent in the last 18 months is ‘not enough’.

Mourinho looks set to capitalise on the January transfer window and bring in significant reinforcements to solidify the club’s contention in the Champions League and the English Premier League. However, his recent comments about previous transfer windows have left the club hierarchy angry at him for being so ungrateful for the funding provided.

Reports claim that the club are willing to tolerate the boss’ vocal opinions on referees and opposition managers but won’t stand for him belittling the club’s spending when they have spent heavily on players like Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.

United are pleased with the progress Mourinho has made on the pitch since replacing Louis van Gaal in 2016 and want to ensure he continues building the club back up to the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson’s era. In order to do that, the Daily Mail claim chief executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is ready to fund Mourinho’s latest demands in the summer.

United know that they have fallen too far behind City and are prepared to do whatever is necessary to catch up. The Red Devils are 15 points behind the Sky Blues. The report states that he is already making plans to bring in two marquee signings in the summer but it is unclear if they will bolster their ranks this month.

Mourinho has identified his top targets this window and one of them is Tottenham Hotspur’s left-back Danny Rose. However, he has been told by Ed Woodward that he cannot sign the defender and that has left the United boss frustrated.

The left-back position has been a concern for the 20-time league champions, who are currently rotating Ashley Young, Luke Shaw and Daley Blind on the left flank.

Rose, who had earlier expressed his dissatisfaction over Spurs’ transfer philosophy, has been on Mourinho’s wish list and a move could be on the table in the upcoming summer window. Recent reports suggest that Mourinho is keen to land Paris Saint-Germain’s forgotten star Lucas Moura during the winter window.

It’ll be interesting to see who we sign this month.
