Manchester United are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Bordeaux star Malcom in the January transfer window.

According to a report in The Times, the Red Devils are seriously looking at the prospect of bidding for the right-winger in the winter transfer window. The player is rated at £30million by the French Ligue 1 side but Jose Mourinho believes that he can get the club to reduce their asking price as he reportedly gets only £80m to strengthen his squad.

The 20-year-old has been in sparkling form for Bordeaux this season, attracting attention with his performances on the right-hand side of the attack. Mourinho is currently looking at reducing the 11-point gap on arch-rivals Manchester City, which is looking insurmountable with every passing week.

However, the gaffer believes that we need to improve every position and have a good run of wins to reduce the margin. One of the improvement areas identified by the manager is the right wing.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial prefer the left wing, which leaves Mourinho with very few options to try on the other side of the pitch. More often, Juan Mata has been tried in that position. However, he fails to have the same impact like that of Martial or Rashford.

This is precisely where Malcom would improve our squad and his stats show how effective he can be. The winger has already had a hand in 11 goals this season for Bordeaux. Only Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) and Leroy Sane (Manchester City) have had a bigger hand in more goals than Malcom in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

The youngster moved to France from Corinthians only last year but could be keen to move to the Premier League. Bordeaux have struggled this season in Ligue 1 and the Brazilian has been the only shining light for them.

Will he make the move in January? Tough to see that happening especially since Bordeaux are struggling. The club president has already categorically rejected the move.

Will Malcom be able to solve Mourinho’s problems? Tough to say but we have seen in the last couple of seasons that players from Ligue 1 are adapting easily.

What do you think?
