Done Deal: Man Utd Beat Man City To The Signing Of Highly Rated Midfielder In The Mould Of Paul Pogba

Aliou Traore

Manchester United have snapped up another talented youngster and this time it’s a former Paris Saint-Germain starlet. According to reports from Sky Sports, the Red Devils have signed 16-year-old midfielder Aliou Traore. The youngster made his debut for United in their 3-2 defeat to Wolves on Saturday in the Under-18 Premier League Cup. The signing comes after a long and protracted pursuit of the talented France Under17 international.

Traore impressed while on trial with the club and has also impressed the management during a spell at the pre-season training camp in Austria. That was enough for the Red Devils to go all-out for the former PSG youngster.

“Traore is a boy we’ve been looking at for a while,” U18’s coach Kieran McKenna, told MUTV (h/t Sky Sports).

“He is a really powerful midfielder who likes to run box to box. He is very strong technically and is improving all the time.

The youngster turns 17 in January and will be available for the club’s FA Youth Cup campaign which is scheduled to start on December 13 against Derby for the Red Devils.

McKenna’s side are 3rd in the Under-18 Premier League North table after 10 games, with 20 points. They trail leaders Manchester City by 2 points and will hope that the addition of Traore boosts their hopes of matching their city rivals.

How did the youngster fare in his debut match against Wolves? Traore played for 53 minutes and came close to getting a debut goal, with a couple of long-range efforts.

Italian Champions Juventus were interested in signing the youngster back in June, although the talks with United have been going on since March. There were reports that even Manchester City were interested in signing the young prospect.

I think it is a huge boost to the United youth ranks to have signed Traore by pipping Juventus as well as City. He is described as a powerful player and as someone in the mould of Paul Pogba.

Traore was previously on the books of PSG but left the Paris club amid fears over a lack of opportunities at the senior level and a lack of clear progress path. United management believes that he can grow rapidly at the club and play alongside Pogba in the future.

Let’s hope that he enjoys his football at Old Trafford and becomes a future star at the club, like Pogba.

Here’s wishing Traore a bright future at Manchester United!
