Manchester United’s £75million Signing Reveals Details About His Release Clause

Romelu Lukaku

Manchester United’s new signing Romelu Lukaku has said that he does not have any release clause in his Manchester United contract and further went on to quote that he wishes to play for the Red Devils for a ‘very long time’.

Forking an initial £75million fee, Manchester United signed the towering Belgian from Everton on a five-year contract, with an option of extending it for another year.

With a desperate need to sign a striker after Zlatan had left the club post his contract expiry (although he is now back at the club), United decided to make a quick offer for Romelu Lukaku and both United and Everton settled on an initial £75million fee for the striker. A £15m in add-on fee has also been included in the contract, hence, all in all, United will be paying a massive £90million should the conditions be met.

In a world where the likes of PSG and Real Madrid are dominating the news, you might never know who could trigger a release clause of your player and lure him away (ask Barcelona). Liverpool, on the other hand, played it smart while offering Coutinho a new contract. They didn’t include any release clause, hence, they have all the freedom in the world to set an asking price for the Brazilian.

Romelu Lukaku, on his part, was recently asked does he have any such release clause in his contract and he told Belgian newspaper DH,

“I don’t have one, I’m very happy. I hope I stay there for a very long time.”

He was also pushed to a question as how big an offer it would take for United to sell him and he simply said,

“I’m not going to leave. I’m happy over there. Manchester United is a big club.”

Lukaku had a fine start to his Manchester United career as he scored a brace on his debut and went on to score another against Swansea as well. His inconsistency was, however, outlined against Leicester as even though United won the fixture quite comfortably, he was utterly bullied by Harry Maguire for the entirety of the game. He also missed a penalty and a couple of easy chances.

However, Lukaku being Lukaku should be able to put it behind him and move on to the next game.
