Real Madrid have rejected Manchester United’s £50million attempt to sign their 21-year-old young prodigy, Marco Asensio, as per the reports from Diario Gol.

Signed from Mallorca back in 2015, the Spanish international has seen his stock rise high since last season. Making a total of 38 appearances in all competitions, Asensio scored 10 goals and underlined his importance to the team.

Diario Gol further claims that Asensio can be easily lured away as he only has a €80million release clause and to snub off all the interests, Florentino Perez wants to raise it to €600million. Having demonstrated his skills and his vitality in the team last season, Asensio, who did not have many opportunities as much as he would have thought he deserved last season, will be a major headache for Zinedine Zidane.

Getting the nod ahead of the famed ‘BBC’ is a grueling task, but Zidane has promised that only the players who perform better will be preferred, regardless of how big a player’s reputation is. Asensio certainly isn’t a finished article, but his recent growth has been very appalling.

Besides scoring in the 4-1 thrashing of Juventus in the Champions League final, the Spaniard produced a moment of magic, netting a 25-yard finish in Real’s 3–1 win over Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the first leg of Spanish Super Cup. The 21-year-old repeated the same feat in the return leg and helped Real defeat their fierce rivals 5–1 on aggregate. He also rescued a point in Real’s recent La Liga encounter against Valencia, which ended 2-2.

Knowing his abilities, Jose Mourinho tried testing Real’s resolve by offering £50million for the player, even after knowing that his release clause stands at £74m. The Portuguese, however, faced an immediate rejection. It now remains unknown whether Mourinho will return with an improved offer or not.

Just in, Arsene Wenger was firmly linked with the Spaniard as well. Reports once claimed that the Gunners were ready to trigger his release clause, but the rumour died eventually. Real, on their part, have reportedly entered discussions with Asensio over an improved contract which will not only up his wages, but will also rocket his buyout clause.
