Journalist On Sky Sports Admits Manchester United Could Complete 4th Deal By This Week

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is ever closer to signing a new contract with Manchester United and according to reporter Aidan Magee, that could happen as early as this week.

Magee was speaking on Sky Sports News (h/t The Sport Review) on Monday night and broached the topic of Ibrahimovic’s deal.

Magee said: “Is an Old Trafford hero about to return?

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic is ready to sign a contract as early as this week to return to Manchester United, just a few months after he was released following the knee injury he sustained in April.”

If this happens, it is a huge boost for Jose Mourinho and United fans. The Swedish superstar is a fan favourite here because of his exploits in the 2016-17 season, with some fans linking his effect to that of Eric Cantona. The 35-year-old had an instant impact after signing on a free transfer but had to miss the later part of the season because of a knee injury he suffered against Anderlecht in the Europa League.

He was released by United following the end of his contract at the beginning of this summer but was allowed to undergo his rehabilitation at the Carrington training complex.

True to his nature, the giant striker has surprised everyone with the speed of his recovery. Initially, it was thought that Zlatan would be unavailable till the end of this year but looking at the way he has recovered, he could be available by Christmas time.

There is interest in the player from other clubs too as AC Milan and LA Galaxy have made inquiries. But, United are keen to bring him back to the club and the player also is reportedly interested in staying back.

Having scored 17 Premier League goals in his debut season last year, Zlatan has almost become a cult hero at Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho has added Romelu Lukaku this summer but would be keen to pair him and Marcus Rashford with Zlatan in an effort to develop the youngsters.

If he signs, the striker could be on reduced wages but with an option of joining the coaching staff at the end of that deal. All the buzz and excitement around his signature looks to have been well-placed considering the latest remarks by Magee.

What do you think of the euphoria around Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s signing? Will he be as effective as last season?
