The start of the Premier League is just a few days away but that does not mean teams are happy with their squad and have their eyes fixed on their upcoming opponents. Manchester United might have bagged Romelu Lukaku but that is not enough for Jose Mourinho as he plans to raid Barcelona for one of their most talented youngsters.
According to Spanish publication, Don Balon, Manchester United are in the race to sign Sergi Roberto from the Catalan giants and are ready to trigger his release clause to bring the talented Spaniard over to England. Roberto might not be the big name that an Andres Iniesta or Lionel Messi is but the 25-year-old does have a lot of talent and is one of the more versatile players in the Barcelona side.
The Spaniard can play as a defensive midfielder, a winger or even as a full-back and that certainly is one reason why Mourinho would want him in the side. Roberto would cover a lot of positions and would be a great signing, considering some of the crazy prices already being paid in the window.
Roberto is not the kind of player that would make us a great attacking threat but he does seem to be a Mourinho kind of player who always gives his all and won’t back down from a challenge or two. The 25-year-old could be the answer to provide more bite to our midfield and with his experience of playing for the La Liga giants, he might just be the transfer of the season if we can get him on the cheap.
Even though he is just 25, he has played 153 games for the Barcelona first-team and even played 47 games for them last season. The one thing that might be standing in our way of signing the utility man is the fact that he has never played outside Spain and leaving your home is always a tough decision, especially when you are already playing for a top club like Barca.
We do need a few more signings before the close of the transfer window and Mourinho knows what kind of players are required to take us to the top and push us to the Premier League crown and more.
