Italian Journalist Tips Manchester United To Complete Their Third Summer Signing Soon

According to Tancredi Palmeri (via Daily Express), Manchester United are still likely to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

The Croatian international has been a regular with the fans through this transfer season as the Red Devils have been heavily linked with him. The 28-year-old is Jose Mourinho’s favourite target this window but the two clubs are still miles apart from agreeing to a fee.

Perisic too has set his mind on a move to Old Trafford and has reportedly told manager Luciano Spaletti of his intentions. The midfielder is currently abroad on Inter Milan’s pre-season tour, although his joining should not be construed as a mark of his intentions to stay.

Italian journalist Palmeri though is confident that United will be able to have their way in signing Perisic this summer. He goes on to put a rider however, saying that anything can change within 24 hours.

“If I had to bet, I think Perisic will move to Manchester United this summer”, Palmeri was quoted by the Daily Express

“But you must remember, everything can change in 24 hours. That’s something people should always keep in mind”

“It’s not only about the player, it’s about how flexible the club is to selling them. Sometimes it’s firm one day then, the day after, it’s off because other parameters change. It should always be kept in mind that one negotiation is linked to other negotiations.”

There are many cases in the past where a club felt confident of signing a player only to see him joining the rivals. Case in point? Willian was chased by Tottenham who did all the ground work and were literally ready with a red carpet at the White Hart Lane only to hear that he reached Stamford Bridge instead to sign with Chelsea.

Will the Perisic case have the same disappointing end? It may not be the same as other deals in the past. The player is happy to move to the club and reports point out that he has even agreed to personal terms. The only thing that stops the deal is the valuation – which can easily be negotiated by the two clubs.

Inter are currently trying to close out other signings as they strive hard to match the signing spree of crosstown rivals AC Milan. That said, Spalletti will not want an unhappy player in his side.

Mourinho has taken his side to the United States for pre-season friendlies. Next season will see Champions League return to Old Trafford and hence the need to have a stronger squad is a minimum requirement. As club legend, Ryan Giggs recently put out, the arrival of Perisic will improve the quality at United.
