Manchester United Monitoring €15m French Midfielder – Juventus Also Interested

Manchester United are keeping an eye on Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi’s situation at the French club as per reports from L’Equipe (via Express).

The 30-year old midfielder has just over a left on his current contract with Les Parisiens and has attracted interest from several quarters including Serie A champions Juventus, the report claims.

Matuidi has become a key part of the team at the Parc des Princes since his move from Saint. Etienne back in 2011 and has gone on to win four Ligue 1 titles and three French Cups along with several other major honours with the capital outfit. Last season, he managed a total of 52 appearances for Unai Emery’s side, finding the back of the net on seven occasions and setting up seven more strikes for his teammates.

A powerhouse in the middle of the park, the France international came close to a move to Juventus last season, but saw the transfer blocked by club president Nasser Al Khelaifi. However, the report claims the Bianconeri are set to make a €15 million bid to test PSG’s resolve in the upcoming summer, while United too are monitoring his situation, but are yet to show any concrete interest. But, with Marco Verratti also heavily linked with a transfer away from the French capital, it is unlikely that PSG will consider selling their midfield stalwart.

United are in need of reinforcements in the midfield areas and the point is not lost on our manager Jose Mourinho. In the recent weeks, we have been linked with a move for AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho and Nemanja Matic from Chelsea.

Michael Carrick extended his stay at the club for another year, but we cannot rely on the veteran midfielder to perform week in week out, considering his advancing age. Matuidi, with his experience and know-how, will be more than a handy purchase if the club manages to sign him. He will bring in a much-needed energy and steel to our engine room. It will also provide the 30-year old an opportunity to play with international teammate Paul Pogba.

The fact that Matuidi is managed by super-agent Mino Raiola, who is also the agent of Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimović could end up playing into our hands. United have managed to bring in Victor Lindelof from Benfica in the close season, but there has been no progress on any other deals as of yet.
