Manchester United’s £89m Star Cornered By Angry Mob At Indian Curry Restaurant

Paul Pogba was involved in an altercation with Manchester United fans after allegedly refusing to sign in an autograph. The world’s most expensive player was recently at an Indian curry restaurant. Akbar’s is a popular restaurant in the Manchester city centre. Pogba is a regular at this restaurant, and he was reportedly enjoying a night out with his friends. It is reported that a number of fans allegedly asked the midfielder for an autograph. Pogba, who did not want to be disturbed, refused to entertain their claims. Even though he declined in a polite manner, the fans appear to have not taken it lightly.

One of the issues appear to have stemmed from the player’s alleged £290,000 per week wages. As one of the world’s best-paid players, fans felt that he was entitled to give in to the wishes of Manchester United faithful. Signed from Juventus for £89 million – a world record fee – in the summer, the midfielder has been a vital part of the Manchester United setup under Jose Mourinho.

Even though he was initially expected to be a defensive midfielder playing the role of Michael Carrick, Pogba has been utilised in a much more advanced role. This change appears to have been brought about as a result of overwhelming criticism surrounding the lack of goals from Pogba. Even though he is a midfielder by nature, his incredible transfer fee results in comparisons with other expensive players – like Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale – and their goal scoring records.

Snapchat videos showed the midfielder in a relaxed mood prior to the incident. It even revealed Pogba answering the queries of fans in a polite manner. However, the angry mob did not heed into his requests and this resulted in a situation is getting rather quickly fight. Punches were allegedly thrown in the way of Pogba, who had no other option but to seek a corner of the restaurant. This did not end easily with Pogba having to receive a plate thrown at him.

Pogba has had a mixed campaign with Manchester United up until now. Even though he has already won the EFL Cup and the Community Shield since moving to Old Trafford, the French midfielder has managed to score only four league goals. He has also had a further three assists in the 24 league matches. His biggest contribution has been in the Europa League where he has helped the club reached the last 16 of the competition after scoring two goals in eight appearances. Pogba also scored one goal in the four EFL Cup games.
