Manchester United Hero To Have A Statue In Home Country After 10th Consecutive Golden Ball Award

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is easily one of the greatest strikers ever to grace the game. He has won league titles in major leagues like Holland, Italy, Spain, and France. This is in addition to the numerous other individual honours and other titles. Even if the Champions League continues to be a major absentee from his trophy cabinet, there is no doubt that Ibrahimovic is one of the greatest Swedish players of all time.

The 35-year-old was recently crowned as the best Swedish player of the year for a 10th consecutive season. Upon picking up the award, Ibrahimovic learnt that the Swedish FA will be putting up a statue of him at the Friends Arena. In his usual modest self, Ibrahimovic says that he is finally being rewarded for the 20 years of hard work put into the national team. He said:

“It feels unreal. Many are thinking ‘Why him?’ and so on, but after all the hard work over 15 years in the national team and 20 years in my club career, it feels like it’s being appreciated. You usually get this after you die, but I still feel alive. When I die, this statue will live on forever.”

The striker recently retired from international duty but not before scoring 62 goals in just 116 appearances for the national team.

The recent award given by the Swedish FA is a huge crowning moment for the player considering that no player had managed to win the award more than twice in succession since it came into existence back in 1946. Ibrahimovic has managed to beat the record five times over.

Manchester United legend and his former teammate at Paris St Germain, David Beckham, claimed that Ibrahimovic is one of the greatest players he has ever played with. Beckham also says that there are few players who want to win the game so much as the Swede.

After having won league titles in several major leagues, winning the Premier League would certainly elevate Ibrahimovic to an entirely new level. Beckham was also a multiple winner of league titles in Spain, France, England, and the United States. He said:

“He is still one of the greatest players that has ever played the game – one of the reasons why I’m happy he is now playing at Manchester United, my team. Thanks for that, Zlatan.”

He certainly is not finished just yet and the 35-year-old is looking to help Manchester United seal a place in the top four. After starting the season extremely well, the former Swedish international went through a terrible run of form in October where he simply could not score a goal.

His goal drought may have recently ended, but his return to form was confirmed with two goals against Swansea City just before the international break. Ibrahimovic did not have the opportunity to build on these goals when Arsenal were the visitors to Old Trafford on Saturday, as he was suspended after picking up five yellow cards so far this season.

Despite his age, Ibrahimovic is likely to be involved in the midweek Europa league match against Feyenoord which is so important for the club in terms of qualifying for the knockout stages.
