Jose Mourinho Keen To Add This £26 million Rated Swedish Defender

Manchester United target Victor Lindelöf could be on his way out of Portugal should a club decide to spend a minimum of £26 million for the Swedish defender. The Benfica defender has been a target for many top clubs and the Devils were one of the teams that were in the market for a young talented defender, according to the reports from the Portuguese outlet A Bola.

The former Vasteras player was a bit of an unknown player but he has performed well for the Portuguese side this season and was even impressive in the UEFA Champions League. The 22-year-old has nine appearances in the league and four in the UEFA Champions League.

The defender plays mostly as a centre-back but he can play out wide as a right-back as well. The youngster is known for his passing ability, which is a bit of a surprise given that he is a defender first.

United face competition from a Premier League rivals

It isn’t just United who are linked with a move for the Swede, reports claim that Antonio Conte is another manager who wants to sign him up. The Italian has tried hard to bring in a few players from Serie A side Juventus but hasn’t been able to sign either Leonardo Bonucci or Georgio Chiellini.

Reports from Italy believes that the London club will be able to pull off the signing should they stump up big money for the defender. Benfica, like most Portuguese clubs, have a history of selling their best players for a high transfer fee and the situation would be the same for Lindelöf.

There still is a lot to be known about his future, yet there have been conflicting reports that as many as 28 clubs want to sign him, and there is interest from the likes of La Liga giants Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund as well.

The competition for the highly rated defender could ensure that he does move to a bigger side than United. United don’t really have a stiff cover in the centre-back position and bringing in more quality would be a step in the right direction.

United do have Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling as the centre-backs but both of them are set to miss the action for a while due to their respective injuries and besides that, Jose Mourinho isn’t convinced with Chris Smalling either. Further, the likes of Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo are there, but none of them is the natural centre-backs, as both of them are a left-back by trait and cannot be used in crunch games.

United have been an average side so far both defensively and offensively and if they can sign Lindelöf, it could be a great coup for the side.
