The last few weeks have shown us what is the real problem with Manchester United. Jose Mourinho has a huge task on his hands to get this United team performing on a consistent basis. The impressive start to the season was followed by 3 consecutive victories before United stop the slump with a victory over defending Champions. The draw again Stoke City last week has left United in 6th place with 13 points. With United struggling to get going, it’s no surprise that reports have been doing the rounds regarding Jose Mourinho looking to bolster his attacking options further in January.

It is believed that Mourinho is interested in acquiring the services of Spanish midfielder Isco from Real Madrid, there are reports that the 24-year-old is considering new pastures after falling the pecking order at Santiago Bernabéu. Isco signed for Real Madrid in 2013 after an excellent 2012-2013 season with Malaga. However, after impressing in his debut season, Isco went off the boil and is struggling to get into the side right now. He has made only 2 appearances this season off the bench, therefore in order get his career back on track, he will need more game time. Here are three reasons why we think Jose Mourinho should not sign the Spanish international.

Here are three reasons why we think Jose Mourinho should not sign the Spanish international.

Plethora of Players

Jose Mourinho spent handsomely this summer, as a result, he has a strong squad at his disposal. He already has Mkhitaryan, Lingard, Memphis, Young and Mata fighting for that number 10 role along with Wayne Rooney, who seems to have lost manager’s trust in the wake of his disappointing performance this season. Upfront, there is Ibrahimovic, Rashford and Martial competing to start in that number 9 role, therefore even if Isco does make the move to England, it is unlikely that he will be given greater game time than Madrid.

ISco

Form

Isco was highly impressive in the 2013-2014 season and played an important role in Real’s long-awaited and historic tenth Champions League title. However, since then his influence has slowly gone down. With a return of 15 goals in 101 appearances for Madrid, it’s clear that Isco needs to contribute more if he wants to get a regular run in the team. One look at the stats, we notice that his average of key passes is pretty low when compared to Rooney, Mata and Mkhitaryan. Isco would cost around £25 million, which is why results will be expected straight after his arrival.

Won’t Suit The Style

Looking at the recent signings made by Jose Mourinho and the direction the team is going in, it is hard to see Isco playing a vital role in Mourinho revolution. The Portuguese has never much favoured creative playmakers, rather he likes to play on the counter with pace and power. Having already pushed Mata out once at Chelsea, it is unlikely that he will invest in another Spanish midfielder now that Mata is doing a good job.
