Manchester United In Shock As Rising Star Omitted From England’s Under-21 Squad

Manchester United’s rising star – Marcus Rashford – has not been included in the latest England under-21 squad for their upcoming European U21 Championship qualifiers.

The 18-year-old striker scored a hat-trick on his debut for the under-21s to help Gareth Southgate’s side to a comfortable 6-1 victory. Well, his exclusion from the list means he could earn a senior squad call-up for their World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

Aidy Boothroyd will be in charge of the U21 team in place of Gareth Southgate, who is stepping in for England’s next four matches following Sam Allardyce’s departure this week. Rashford made his debut for the senior side and struck within three minutes in a 2-1 victory over Australia in a Euro 2016 warm-up match.

Most recently, the former Manchester United defender – Rio Ferdinand – claimed that Rashford should be selected for the senior squad next week. He said:

“I think Marcus Rashford should be selected for the senior squad next week and be unleashed against Malta.

“Including his hat-trick for the U21s against Norway earlier this month, no English striker has scored more goals since he made his professional debut in February.

“I don’t care how old you are, that record warrants a place in the squad. He has been the best striker in this country since February in terms of output – the statistics don’t lie.”

Well, before the international breaks, United do have a game against Stoke city this weekend.
