Manchester United lost their third match in a row as a spirited Watford side despatched them 3-1. It was a poor showing all around as Etienne Capoue opened the scoring in the first half, which Watford dominated.

United equalised through Marcus Rashford in the second half but Watford did not relent. Juan Zuniga scored the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute before he won a penalty. Troy Deeney scored the third goal for the Hornets as they shocked United.

There were a number of players who were below par. We look back at the game and present the player ratings for United.

David de Gea – 6/10

The Spanish goalkeeper couldn’t really do much with the goals he conceded. His defence was all over the place and will hope something better from them in the next game.

Antonio Valencia – 7/10

Valencia was one of the better players for Manchester United but couldn’t really do much in the game.

Eric Bailly – 5/10

A poor display by the former Villarreal man. Bailly couldn’t deal with the likes of Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney, a wake-up call in English football for the defender.

Chris Smalling – 6/10

Another average performance by the Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year (last season). Smalling was never at his best yesterday, but could not do much for any of the three goals.

Luke Shaw – 5/10

Misplaced passes galore, Luke Shaw also had a rather poor game and was partly responsible for the second goal that Manchester United conceded.

Marouane Fellaini – 6/10

Fellaini didn’t have the worst game and actually was pretty decent. He too got booked as the team and the players lost the plot in the second half.

Paul Pogba – 5/10

Apart from one shot which cannoned off the bar, there was very little done by Pogba and he too god booked towards the end of the game.

Anthony Martial – 4/10

The Frenchman was at fault for the first goal and was subbed off really early.

Wayne Rooney – 4/10

A horrible display by the United captain, Wayne Rooney was all over the place and also ended the game by getting booked.

Marcus Rashford – 7/10

One of the few Manchester United players that did well, Rashford took his goal really well but that was it for the young Englishman.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 6/10

The Swede was guilty of missing a few chances, which ultimately came back to haunt the club.

Substitutes:

Ashley Young – 6/10

Came on early in the first half but didn’t really do much against his former club.

Juan Mata – 6/10

Mata was brought on to change things up for United but failed to do so and barely saw enough of the ball in the second half.

Memphis Depay – NA

Depay was brought on with five minutes remaining and the only thing he did was get booked for United.
