Why This Forgotten Man United Star Is Still An Important Figure At The Club?

The transfers have been concluded and every single Premier League club tried their skins out to lure some top names into the squad, as to compete for the title. The North London club, Arsenal, who were criticized for not spending the money, have brought in two names from La Liga, while the other club from London, Chelsea, did a great deal of business on the deadline day.

A heavy transition has happened in the Premier League, but now it is safe to say that Manchester United manager is more than happy with his squad and no further incomings are expected, but we might expect some players leaving the club, maybe in the winter transfers. Even though the manager stated that no further negotiations will be taking place, youngsters like Will Keane and Joel Pereira left the club on the deadline day.

Previously, according to the reports from Independent, Manchester United’s 26-year-old Italian full-back, Matteo Darmian was a subject of an interest from a host of Italian clubs. The player was linked with the clubs like; Juventus, Napoli and AS Roma. The £12m signing from Torino last season, Darmian, arrived at the Theatre of Dreams with a high expectation and started his United career brightly as he was named as United’s Player of the Month for August 2015 , but a series of injuries and inconsistent performances saw him lose his first team spot.

Even though the player, right at this very moment, is a second choice full back for the new manager as both Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are hitting the strides, we do feel that he still is an important player for the squad and United should really keep hold on to the player at any cost.

The first and utmost reason behind my point is his versatility. The 26-year-old Italian is one of those few defenders, who can operate both the flanks with the same efficiency and as we all are aware of the fact that Marcos Rojo is unable to find a footing, Darmian could well step ahead of him.

Secondly, the manager himself stated that he will only rotate his squad once the Europa League is kicked off so it is safe to say that Darmian still has a long way to go. He might have struggled in his very first season with the club, but so have others and that can affect an individual’s performance.

Furthermore, he may not be the most prolific figure during the counters or during the attacks, but his ability to take on the pacy wingers is something to be duly noted. Even though he had a tough season, he still managed to win 52% of his average duels and managed a passing accuracy of 79%.

Besides all of that, for the right back spot, Manchester United do not really have many effective options besides Valencia and if (touch wood not) the Ecuadorian is injured at any time of the season, Darmian would be the only natural option for the manager. All-in-all, my point here is, Darmian could well be a Cesar Azpilicueta for Jose Mourinho, but the Italian needs to be patient.

Unlike Chelsea or Liverpool, United do have a European participation and the players will be getting their lion’s share of time on the pitch and Darmian is no exception here. The 26-year-old, as mentioned earlier, is an important figure in the team and right at this very moment, diligence is the key.
