Adnan Januzaj is hoping to resurrect his career after a disappointing couple of seasons. The 21-year-old joined Sunderland this summer on a season-long loan, where he will reunite with David Moyes. The former Manchester United manager was responsible for bringing Januzaj into the spotlight in that horrendous season at Old Trafford. Januzaj was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund in the summer window last term, only to be sent back to Old Trafford just five months later, having never made a Bundesliga start. The Belgian announced his arrival onto the scene against the Black Cats in October 2013 at the Stadium Of Light, where he scored both the goals and soon became an overnight hero for the supporters of Red Devils.

However, along with the departure of David Moyes, Januzaj’s career also hit a roadblock as he soon found out that he wasn’t part of Louis Van Gaal’s plans. Even though the Dutchman left the club in the summer, it doesn’t seem that Jose Mourinho is much interested in Januzaj either, by allowing him to link up with Moyes once more on loan at Sunderland. For his exploits in the 2013-2014 season, the youngster was awarded a new 5-year contract that runs till 2018, however, since then he has failed to live up to that hype or nail down a regular starting spot in the team. Therefore, Moyes felt it was the right time to make a move for him.

David Moyes joined Sunderland in the summer after a disappointing few months in Spain with Real Sociedad. He will be looking to improve Sunderland’s position this season after finishing just above the relegation zone last season. The arrival of Januzaj will add a different dimension to the Black Cats when going forward, the reliance on Jermain Defoe up front should also lessen quite a bit.

Januzaj will be hoping for more game time this season, now that he has made the move. It is very important for the youngster to get as much playing time under his belt as he can, which is why leaving United looks like an intelligent move. It was unlikely that the Belgian was going to feature much this season, given the host of new players who have arrived this summer at Old Trafford. He will be looking to back in form as soon as possible, there is no doubting the fact that the weight of expectations that come with being a United player will not be there for Januzaj anymore. He can play with freedom just like he did in his breakthrough year.

Moyes will definitely give him the chance he deserves but other than that it will be in the hands of the player to make a name for himself. He will need to improve significantly this season if he wants to challenge for a starting birth in a Manchester United team.
