Three Reasons Why This Midfield Warrior Will Not Be An Ideal Signing For Manchester United

The entire transfer market has been buzzing around the speculation regarding the move of Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba to Manchester United. The rumours started soon after Mourinho took the reins of the Old Trafford club, but officially, the Devils made an approach for the player last month.

In July, Sky Sports reported that Manchester United offered the Turin club 85 million for Pogba, who left the Old Trafford club back in 2012, and since then, the 23-year-old has won 4 back to back Serie A titles with the Old Lady. Juventus immediately rejected Manchester United’s bid and clearly stated that the player is worth way more than this and would only accept a bid of around 100 million.

Since then, nothing concrete has taken place. At one point, Pogba’s agent denied the rumours by saying there is no deal between the two clubs for the player, but many media are claiming that Manchester United are planning to go back with an improved offer.

It is now understood that Manchester United manager really wants to sign a central midfielder, and that too of Pogba’s calibre, but we personally think that 100 million for a 23-year-old midfielder, who had a mediocre Euro 2016 is surely not acceptable. Many footballing experts had their say regarding his move, but now it seems like Jose Mourinho has already made a decision regarding the transfer saga.

But is Pogba an ideal signing for Manchester United? Well, we do have some mixed feelings regarding the same, but here, we give you three reasons why Paul Pogba to Manchester United isn’t a real deal:

  1. He Isn’t worth the Money-

The first and utmost reason for this is he really isn’t worth the hype. There is no doubt that the player, at 23 years of age, is considered as one of the best in the sport, but 100 million isn’t the answer for that. Even looking at the stats of the lasts season, he gave an average performance as he bagged just 8 goals and assisted further 12, which from no angle is worth that hype, and even if it is, then imagine how much Riyad Mahrez is worth?

This is no secret that Football these days is more of a business rather than a sport, hence the money doesn’t really matters. The club have the potential, hence they are spending, but they can also think a little out of the box, and that with this amount, they can buy 3-4 other top players. Liverpool manager has rightly questioned clubs for spending huge sums on players. In an interview, he said:

“If you bring one player in for £100m and he gets injured, then it all goes through the chimney,” he said.

“The day that this is football, I’m not in a job anymore, because the game is about playing together.

“That is how everybody in football understands it. You always want to have the best, but building the group is necessary to be successful.

“Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players.

“I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money.

“I don’t know exactly how much money we could spend because nobody has told me, ‘No, you can’t do this.”

“If I spend money, it is because I am trying to build a team, a real team. Barcelona did it. You can win championships, you can win titles, but there is a manner in which you want it.”

Many Manchester United fans would argue over the fact, but unfortunately, we think exactly the same.

  1. Other cheaper and equally worth Options available-

If Manchester United really wants to spend a hefty 100 million of cash, then they should really explore the other options as well. For an instance, Manchester United is reportedly targeting the Turkish international midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup, and it is safe to say that he will surely come in handy at the Old Trafford. Besides that, his stats are somewhere equal to that of Pogba.

Oguzhan Ozyakup scored 10 goals last season, and further assisted 8. And besides the 23-year-old Turk, the side should really consider buying a centre back, because what we have observed from the pre-season games is that they lacked a steel in the defence. And as stated earlier, the team can really sign at least 3-4 top class players with that capital.

  1. Salary disputes-

Not just his fee, the player will come with a lot of expectations and will demand a huge sum of a salary. Again, Manchester United do not really have any problem in terms of finance, but paying a buck load of salary to a 23-year-old might spark a dispute in the back room. There are players, who are working for a comparatively low salary, and are an important asset to the team, and this might affect the team’s morale somewhere in the future.

Besides all of that, we personally feel that Pogba has the skills to  replicate his  Serie A form in the Premier League. As mentioned earlier, he failed to do anything special during the Euro 2016, hence we can say that signing him is a gamble considering his price tag.
