Manchester United Player Ratings vs Crystal Palace

The Red Devils clinch the FA Cup trophy after 12 years as they managed to come ahead being a goal down at 78th minute against Crystal Palace. Players like De Gea, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard rose to the occasion and played the key role in their team’s win.

Finally, a trophy for Manchester United and that too the one which had been on the bucket list for quite a while.  United had to win the FA Cup on Saturday to take any integrity away from this season. But the fact they have got some silverware does not change the fact it has been a hugely disappointing campaign for them.

Anyway, let’s look at the player ratings from the FA Cup final match.

David De Gea: 7

De Gea was at his business as usual against Palace. But he did however failed to cover the post at Jason Puncheon’s strike which came out to be the opener.

Marcos Rojo: 6

Thanks to a comparatively poor display from Zaha as Rojo managed to keep the Crystal Palace winger away from the penalty area.

Chris Smalling: 5

Defended well and strong like he usually does but a very embarrassing match for him as he saw himself being sent off in such a crucial game.

Dailey Blind: 6

The Dutch player struggled at times but was calm and composed. Blind dealt well with set-pieces and made a few key passes forward.

Antonio Valencia: 7

Except for a few times, Valencia had Bolasie in his pocket and that was enough on his part to win the game.

Michael Carrick: 6

The veteran midfielder again struggled to move the game ahead but won the hearts with his efforts and positioning up the pitch. Carrick still might have a couple of years to play at the top-level.

Marouane Fellaini: 6

High work rate as usual by the Belgian international but saw himself useless in his strongest ability- heading the ball. Also had a decent effort on goal which was denied by the woodwork.

Wayne Rooney: 8

Showed us why he is still the captain and why the team still needs him. Highest work rate on the pitch by the skipper, without a doubt. Had one assist and a huge stock of beautiful and accurate passes.

Juan Mata: 7

Mata is still going excellent with his role on the wing. Scored the leveller 3 minutes after United conceded.

Anthony Martial: 7

The Frenchman was a threat to Crystal Palace at the left flank with his pace. Martial too was denied a goal by the woodwork. He has seen better games though, obviously.

Marcus Rashford: 6

Rashford had a tremendous first half as he made some great movements and got comfortable inside Palace’s box but saw himself struggle in the second half.

Substitutes:

Matteo Darmian: 6 (for Rojo, 66’)

The Italian fullback did decent overall but struggled to defend against Zaha.

Ashley Young: 5 (for Rashford, 72’)

Was again brought on as a striker and as to our expectations, he didn’t have an effect.

Jesse Lingard: 7 (for Mata, 90’)
Created a few chances which failed. But Lingard did seal the victory with the winning goal after a stunning perfectly timed strike on the ball.
