Why Selling This Dutch Speed Star Is A Bad Idea For Manchester United

According to the recent transfer news, Manchester United have transfer listed their Dutch winger, Memphis Depay. Memphis was brought to the club for a fee of £25million from PSV Eindhoven last year.

The Dutch footballer has shown some promising skills and drills from time to time but has overall struggled to adapt the Premier League game.

There have been rumours that United are back in talks with the Southampton forward player- Sadio Mane. The deal is to swap Memphis with the Senegalese footballer. The news came out to be strong when Saints manager admitted his admiration for the Memphis.

This comes after rumors of a meeting between Memphis and Louis van Gaal, with the winger in search of reassurances over his future after being benched for most of the season, having just 26 appearances in the league with 11 coming on as a substitute.

STATS 2015/16

Goals scored: 5

Assists: 0

Shots per game: 2.3

Chances created: 21

Appearances: 40

The stats look pretty awful for a player worth £25million. Unlike this season, Memphis scored 22 goals last season for PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie. That just goes to show how difficult it is to adapt in the Premier League if you’ve been playing somewhere else.

It would be a stupid decision by United if they go on selling the Dutch international to some other club. Spending that much money and not giving the youngster much exposure to prove his worth is a very silly act by the Premier League giants.

Manchester United must not let Memphis become the next Paul Pogba. The Dutch winger has some serious amount of skills and pace to him which can be used in the right manner with a different style of play- which by the way needs to be changed. Memphis has a good shooting ability as well, better than any in the team.

His exclusion from the team will most probably be a regret for Manchester United. If Ashley young was given a lot of time to recover from his poor form then why not him?
