Manchester United had a quiet winter transfer window this season and many of us were not expecting this. After struggling in November-December period, we expected that United will strengthen their squad. The most noteworthy name to be associated with the club was Renato Sanches, with several news reports saying that a deal was completed.
Two such news agencies, Daily Star and Daily Express said that they got their source from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo that the deal was done. However after digging out, it appears that at the least the news has been exaggerated by the two English publications.

Daily Express: ‘Ojogo.pt claims super agent Jorge Mendes has said Benfica youngster Renato Sanches is heading to Old Trafford.
O Jogo reported that an offer was made but has been rejected and United has made an improved offer hoping that the deal will go through. At the same time it was careful in mentioning that nothing has been finalized. It is probably a few over zealous reporters who jumped the gun and published the report in Daily Star and Daily Express.
