Predicted Manchester United Line Up To Play Against Middlesbrough

Manchester United take on Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup at Old Trafford on Wednesday Night. After a dreary 0-0 draw with neighbours City at the weekend, United will be hoping to push on and seal their place in the Quarter Finals. LVG seems to have learnt from last season’s shambolic defeat at the hands of MK Dons. The major concern for United is the form of Captain Wayne Rooney. He’s been shockingly poor and has failed to create a major impact. Managers normally like to rotate their squad and give younger players an opportunity during the League Cup. This maybe a good opportunity to give few players a much needed rest they need.

Predicted Lineup:

David De Gea- After last season’s early exit, LVG has looked to play a strong team and hence David De Gea should start in goal.

Matteo Darmian- Valencia has done well recently but he was forced off with an injury in the derby and it is unclear whether he’ll be fit. It might be good not to risk him.

Chris Smalling- Although it might be tempting to rest Smalling, I think LVG won’t look to change his centre-back pairing.

Phil Jones- Jones has been good but not flawless since his return and should continue in the centre-back role.

Daley Blind- Rojo has been playing regularly for the Red Devils, which means Blind will have a chance to prove himself at left-back against the minnows from the Championship.

Michael Carrick- Carrick has been out of the starting line-up however LVG can look to him for experience and also give a much needed rest to Schweinsteiger.

Morgan Schneiderlin- Schneiderlin did a good job at the weekend against City and should keep his place. Personally, I wouldn’t mind Blind starting giving Morgan a rest.

Jesse Lingard- Lingard was brought on against CSKA in the Champions League and City in the Premier League and he looked bright. He’s done a good job so far and hopefully he can turn the good performances into goals and assists.

Marouane Fellaini- Fellaini has played less this season and maybe he can find himself in the eleven if LVG decides to rest Herrera.

Memphis- Memphis has been pathetic so far and that’s why he’s found himself on the bench in the last few matches. However, this is the kind of game where he can perform and get his confidence levels up.

Anthony Martial- He’s most dangerous playing up top and that’s where he should play. Wayne Rooney has been poor and deserves to be dropped. Hopefully a night on the bench will help him.
