It has been a difficult summer so far for Manchester United, plenty of their main targets have either rejected moves or been sold to others. But could that change?
The Guardian reports that highly sought after centre-back Eliaquim Mangala would want a move to the red half of Manchester, despite Pellegrini’s interest in him.
It had been planned back in January that the Porto defender would be bought and become Captain Vincent Kompany’s central defensive partner and solidify the backline.
As for Louis van Gaal, he is looking to create a new central defensive partnership to replace the experienced duo of former Captain Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
The former Standard Leige man was impressive for Porto in the Europa League, helping them reach the quarter-final before being knocked out by eventual winners Sevilla.
The Frenchman won an impressive 79% of his headers, 60% of his tackles were successful and most of all in six games he contributed three vital goals. (Squawka)
His performances this season have been noticed and France boss Didier Deschamps has included the 23 year-old in his Brazil 2014 World Cup Squad.
Although Porto are a big club, in the past they have often been used as a stepping stone to bigger and better things by their star players like Radamal Falcao and Hulk.
It seems Mangala’s time in Portugal will come to an end this summer, and despite their current situation, he still sees United as a bigger club than Champions Manchester City.
There are some question marks over his temperament at times, but with the number of targets turning United down, surely they must consider a top player like Mangala.
