Can Manchester Really United Win The Premier League This Season?

Having now seen every Premier League team in action in the new season, I give a brief outlook on whether I think Manchester United have what it takes to retain their title.

It was United’s rivals Liverpool who opened the league season when they picked apart Stoke City in the early kick off last weekend, but as fluid as Brendan Rodgers’ side looked they failed to display the same ruthlessness as the Red Devils, Chelsea or even Manchester City.

United’s trip to Swansea was looked upon as a potential banana slip for David Moyes’ men but they soon silenced the doubters. Danny Welbeck and Robin van Persie ripped apart the Swans backline as they ran out 4-1 winners, and the efficiency shown throughout the squad sent a message to their competitors.

United do need an extra body or two in the central midfield areas, but other than that they have a squad who could compete with most in Europe.

Chelsea kicked their campaign off with a convincing 2-0 win over Hull and displayed some of the most devastating football in the league. Their squad is littered with quality and will definitely be up there, and in my opinion whoever finishes above the Blues will win the title, but as to which of the Manchester sides can manage that, if any, is anyone’s guess.

City hosted Newcastle in Monday’s game and quickly flexed their muscle, crushing the Magpies 4-0 to take their place at the top of the table.

For me, it will be a three-way fight for the trophy between United, City and Chelsea with the latter coming out on top. However, that is purely based on the squads they all parties currently hold.

The next few weeks is likely to consist of watching a shed-load of live football and will ultimately begin to broaden our horizons as to who the real challengers are, and if Moyes can secure a deal for perhaps Marouane Fellaini or another big name midfielder then Mourinho and Pellegrini will have something to worry about.

Can Manchester United win the Premier League title? Yes. Will they win it? Who knows.
