Paying To See The Premier League’s Best Striker

Manchester United have often been synonymous with gifted strikers. Over the years, the supporters have been treated to the attacking talents of Mark Hughes, Eric Cantona, Ruud van Nistelrooy and, in the modern day, Wayne Rooney. It’s no surprise then to have seen manager Sir Alex Ferguson fork out £24m on Dutch hitman Robin van Persie.

The 29-year-old secured a controversial switch from Arsenal to Old Trafford over the summer after eight years with the North London giants. Now playing his trade with United, Van Persie has continued his exceptional striking record from last season, having already netted 16 times for the Manchester giants in all competitions.

The Dutchman scored an astonishing 37 times for the Gunners last season and looks all but set to break his personal best this campaign. His goals have fired United to the summit of the Premiership as they look to wrestle the title away from rivals Manchester City, having been pipped to the finish line by the Citizens last year.

After just 16 games this campaign, the 12-time Premier League champions have already amassed an impressive 40 goals, with City the only team to come close to matching that total with 30. Van Persie has been paramount to the stunning figure and even though he may’ve cost £24m, a high figure for a player who’ll turn 30 in August, if he can fire United to their 13th Premiership, it’ll be looked upon as money well spent by Ferguson.

It’s no surprise, in that case, that fans continue to flock to Old Trafford to see United perform. The Red Devils have scored in all but two of their Premier League fixtures this season, with only one game at home failing to see the net rustle more than three times – a 1-0 win over West Ham United the only game the fans have bore witness to a solitary strike, of course from Van Persie.

With it, the demand for Manchester United tickets has risen significantly, with many of the opinion that a trip to the Theatre of Dreams a sure fire way of seeing goals. And who should be leading the goalscorer list for the club? Van Persie. The Dutchman has scored 11 Premiership goals for United this year, just one behind Swansea City’s Michu, and has netted a little over a quarter of their domestic total.

While the club continue to bang in the goals, fans are going to continuously be interested in witnessing United up close and personal. If Ferguson can continue to bring the best out of Van Persie on top of that, surely a 13th Premier League title is a certainty, provided of course that the Dutchman can steer clear of injury problems that have dogged him in the past.
