The Barclay’s Premier League is four games into the season and the teams are starting to give signs of how the rest of the season might go for them.
For Manchester United, the future is beginning to look bright. As the table stands right now, United are in second place with nine points, behind Chelsea with ten points. And with United’s 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic this weekend, things are continuing to look up.
In the four league games to date, United have had seven different players on the score sheet: Rafael, Shinji Kagawa, Paul Scholes, Robin van Persie, Alexander Buttner, Javier Hernandez, and Nick Powell. Van Persie leads the team, and the League itself, with four goals, while last season’s leading scorer, Wayne Rooney has yet to find the back of the net, as his leg injury has kept him sidelined for the last several weeks.
We all know that last year, that goal difference held United back from winning the title. Thus far, United’s goal differential is +5. United will have to keep getting names on the score sheet if they can hope to keep up with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea.
United will also have to look to the experience of some of their senior players to continue to lead the team to victory. Scholes has played well this year, scoring his first of the year against Wigan.
The additions Sir Alex Ferguson made to the team at the start of the season could potentially be what will propel United to the front of the league. Van Persie has obviously been the most vibrant signing thus far.
However, Kagawa has been a great replacement for Park Ji-Sung who left for QPR before the season. Kagawa has a tireless work ethic, like Ji-Sung and is a playmaker who has his eye on the next play before it happens.
Also in the Wigan game, new signings Buttner and Powell scored their first goals of the season. United need to keep these new signings on the score sheets to have success in the league.
With how things are looking now for United, I believe they have what it takes to win the league. I’m not saying it’s going to be an easy road by any means; the Barclays Premier League has more twists and turns than a water slide.
However, if United can stay on track, go game by game doing what they need to do to win, and keep fresh names on the score sheet, the season could very well end with new silverware for United.
