Previewing United’s Games In March

I thought it would be good at the start of each month to give my predictions on the games that Manchester United will have. Here’s how I can see our games in March panning out.

Before that though, here’s a quick look at how I got on last month with my predictions, as you’re see there I got no score spot-on only predicting 2/5 results right.

So who do United play this month, let’s have a look:

4th March– Premier League:  Spurs @ White Hart Lane

United begin the month with a tough fixture away to Spurs, who after losing embarrasingly againgst Arsenal last week will be hell-bent on getting back to form, making sure that they don’t allow the Gunners or Chelsea to close the gap to them in the table.

Intrestingly United haven’t lost to Spurs since May 2001. That’s a mammoth run of 21 games without defeat. Redknapp will no doubt tell his players that stats like that are there to be broken but United are roaring into form right now and can’t afford to drop points so may nick this one 2-1.

8th March – Europa League: Athletic Bilbao @ Old Trafford

After nervously scrapping past Ajax last month, United face arguably a tougher task againgst Athletic Bilbao in what should be a mouth-watering Europa League round of 16 tie. The two clubs have only met each other twice before and that was way back in the 1957 European Cup quater-finals.

United scrapped through 6-5 on aggregate after losing the first leg. Despite both sides having outstanding attacking-talent this will be not be a high scoring game and United may well have to settle for a 2-1 win ahead of the tricky return trip coming up a week later.

11th March – Premier League: West Brom @ Old Trafford

West Brom right now are a side very much on the up. For the first time in their stay in the Premier League they have won three on the spin and after a tricky start to the season are pushing for a top-half finish, which they should achieve.

Roy Hodgson has got the Albion working hard and they will want to come to Old Trafford and put on a good showing. United will have too much fire-power up top and I can see either Wayne Rooney or Javier Hernandez scoring twice in a 3-0 victory.

15th March – Europa League: Athletic Bilbao @ San Mames

All of La Liga’s top clubs (even Barcelona) have found life tough playing at San Mames in recent history. The classical ground is an intimidating place to go and play and Bilbao’s fantastic supporters will be right up for this one with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.

With dangerous young players like Fernando Llortene, Victor Martinez and Iker Munain at the core of their team, Bilbao could well pull of a surprise in this one but experience for United could prove to the difference and they will just scrap through again.

18th March – Premier League: Wolves @ Molineux

When Wolves’ chairman Steve Morgan decided to sack Mick McCarthy after a 5-1 home defeat to West Brom, fans of the black-country club were not expecting McCarthy’s assistant Terry Connor to be named as his successor until the end of the season.

Connor has a wealth of experience as a coach and having been at Molineux for well over a decade deserves his chance to step-up and manage. United will simply have too much for Wolves to deal with and should win by at least two goals.

26th March – Premier League: Fulham @ Old Trafford

Craven Cottage has always been a tricky ground for United since Fulham got promoted back to the top-flight in 2001, so it was a big surprise this season when United romped to a 5-0 rout of the Cottagers down in London this season.

With the title run-in kicking into full-gear, United will be ready and patient enough to break down Martin Jol’s side who will want to make up for the defeat at Craven Cottage, putting on a good showing for them. United should win this 2-0.
