An England Fan’s Letter To Capello

Dear Fabio,

As news of your resignation reached the western shores of the USA it started me thinking about your tenure as Coach of the England team.

Statistically you were a success, and for that you may be remembered by Statto as a great manager but for me that is not the point at all.

As Alan Shearer will tell you, the point is winning things and no matter how much the stats talk you were an unmitigated and expensive failure.

Frankly, when the Premier League is almost exclusively won by managers from these islands, then why anyone thought an Italian with a limited grasp of the only language the team speaks, and the fact that you hardly knew anything about Premier League football, made you fit for the job is beyond me.

Given that you also had one of the best crops of players we have produced in years and won nothing, means you have doubly failed.

Frankly the style of play, obsession with Steven Gerrard (who wins nothing either) and Frank Lampard in central midfield where they give away possession, as opposed to Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick who cherish it, is also beyond me.

You also failed to curb Wayne Rooney’s temper, ignored Darren Bent for the most part, failed to celebrate Matt Jarvis or Kyle Walker and generally played boring football made it all so much worse.

I’m glad to see the back of you and your hugely inflated salary.

Meanwhile your employers had more crises than you, managed to make Lords Triesman look half decent for a while, appointed the man who left Manchester City before they got good and then conspired to elevate the Luis Suarez and John Terry affairs to the front pages just shows why English football is a mess.

The best idea is to sack the lot of them but more likely is that Harry Redknapp will get a bonus to do it part-time while he settles back into life after the Inland-Revenue trial and his dog account case.

It’s all rather sad really especially when the Nation is now full of 50+ year olds who were kids when they last won something, I mean it was in black and white for god’s sake and now we have 3d TV.

Fabio – you were the wrong man for the job, and walking away at his stage shows you didn’t care enough.

England deserves better, the FA need to do better than Redknapp, and the team need someone who speaks he language, knows our game and recognizes talent.

It’s a job everyone of us would love and that’s why this hits so hard.

The team will still play their best and hopefully make us proud, but those who lead them leave a lot to be desired,

Yours from America.
