What Will Happen This Month In The Premier League (December)

published :

Well it’s certainly been an eventful Premier League season so far this year that has thrown up lots of interesting sub-plots and results. So bearing in mind it’s the start of December it’s time for my ‘jokey’ predictions for what I think will ‘go down’ this month in the Premier League.

Manchester City will want to end the month on top and go into 2012 as the League leaders. Roberto Mancini’s side have a difficult month ahead and I am backing to drop points away at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea and at home to Arsenal, which will be two results that Manchester United fans and players alike will delighted with. City will still go into the New Year despite those results though.

After the rebuilding period that was November for Manchester United, they can ill afford to drop more than 2 points this month. I can see them winning all their games this month aside from their game away to Fulham at Craven Cottage. In recent years United have struggled there and I can see Clint Dempsey getting a second-half equaliser to frustrate Sir Alex Ferguson going into Christmas.

This is a huge month for Andre-Villas Boas. Whilst it would be very harsh to sack the dashing young Portuguese manager, the facts remain that if results don’t improve then Roman Ambrovich may well decide enough is enough. Chelsea may well lose at Newcastle but I am backing them to beat Chelsea and get a draw at Spurs which will be two great results for Villas-Boas.

One of the key games this month appears to be Sunderland’s clash with Blackburn Rovers. Likley to be Martin O’Neill’s first game in charge of the Black Cats, it could well prove to be Steve Kean’s final game in charge of Blackburn. I am backing Sunderland to win that game convincingly and for Blackburn’s Indian owners to give Kean the chop immediately after the game.

Arsenal face an interesting month ahead and rightly all the attention has been on their star striker and captain Robin van Persie. The Dutch maestro has started the season in sincialllating form, scoring 17 goals (many of them stunning finishes) in 19 games in all competitions. Arsenal’s talisman will have a good month and I am backing to score at least 5 goals this month.

Fast-forwarding to the Holiday Period, Owen Coyle could do with a happy Christmas. Bolton face a tricky game on Boxing Day againgst high-flying Newcastle. Despite struggling this season, I can’t see Alan Pardew’s side picking up anything in this game and fancy one of Kevin Davies or Ivan Klasnic to fire Coyle’s men to a much-needed home win that will see their form pick up.

Wigan face a horrid December and after a tricky game away to West Brom, face Chelsea and Liverpool at home before a nightmare trip to Old Trafford on Boxing Day. Sadly for Roberto Martinez his side will lose their four games shipping in at least 10 goals, but they will pick up a much-needed point away to Stoke City in a match that could well end goalless.

Lastly if Spurs are going to finish in the top four and secure a Champions League place this season, they are going to have to have good results over the busy winter period. I can see Harry Redknapp’s winning at least four out of their five games during the month which will represent a good return for the manager everyone believes will succeed Fabio Capello as England manager.
