Manchester United of course play Dean Holdsworth’s Aldershot Town away in the Carling Cup tonight, so with that in mind it’s worth taking a look at these three players who we should be wary of going into the game:
Darren Jones
At 28 years old, tonight’s game is a massive one for Jones. He is unlikely to play in the Premier League and Championship and this is probably as big as it’s going to get for the Welsh defender who is into his second season down at Aldershot.
He has proven to be a popular player with the fans at the Recreation Ground and just like many defenders is known for his strength and commitment. He is known for his leadership qualities and will put his weight about in both boxes.
Michael Rankine
Rankine is by no means a house-hold name in the Football League but the journeyman forward is looking to settle at Aldershot and has been given a chance by Holdsworth to prove himself again as a professional after failing to shine at both Scunthorpe and AFC Bournemouth.
He may not start the game tonight but the forward no doubt could make himself a hero to the ‘Shots fans if he were to get on the score-sheet tonight. Getting a goal on the big occasion would boost his confidence as a forward and help him turn a corner in the game.
Peter Vincenti
There are only a few professionals who hail from Jersey. Tricky winger Vincenti is one of them. After failing to settle at Millwall after moving to the UK in 2007, he joined Stevenage in 2008 becoming a key part of their side that won promotion to the Football League.
He scored Borough’s first goal in the Football League before joining Mansfield on loan playing under Holdsworth’s twin brother David. After being released by Stevenage in January he joined Aldershot and won plaudits for his attacking strengths which include a hard shot.
