Here’s What We Learnt This Weekend #4

So after the fourth week of the Premier League season, here’s what we learnt this weekend:

Firstly we’ve learnt that despite costing £38million there are still some idiots who are surprised that Sergio Aguero has scored 6 goals already this season for Manchester City. Anyone who would have seen Diego Maradonna’s son-in-law would have known that he would if given chances score goals in the Premier League so it’s very strange why people are going OTT (that’s over the top) about him.

We know the man they call ‘Kun’ is good as if he wasn’t,  why on earth would Roberto Mancini spend the gazillions they have on him? After all it’s not like City would spend more than £20million again on somebody whose crap is it? Aguero is certainly taking his goals nicely but looking at the hat-trick he scored at the weekend against Wigan, they were pretty simple strikers weren’t they?

We’ve learnt that Javier Hernandez looks to be starting the season in the same vein that he ended last season. The little Mexican’s two goals at the weekend were typical of exactly the kind of forward that he is and will continue to be in the Premier League for many years to come.

His first goal may have in effect been a tap-in at the near post, but it was more than that as his movement to fool Gary Cahill was incredible and as for his second well like good strikers, he was in the right place at the right time. But for not being 3 or 4 inches taller he could have even bagged a hat-trick himself as the late chance he missed from Wayne Rooney’s cross at the back post would have been converted.

We’ve learnt that Kenny Dalglish will continue to moan and not be criticised by the media as much as Sir Alex Ferguson would had he criticised decisions made by referees after a game. Whilst Liverpool certainly have been unlucky with a couple of ‘big calls’ already this season, King Kenny certainly didn’t help himself by not selecting Andy Carroll against Stoke  at the weekend.

The big target-man might not have started the season in great style. Mind you he didn’t end the season well after suffering from injury problems after leaving Newcastle United in January, but it was surely a ‘no-brainer’ to play the 6’3 ponytailed striker alongside Luis Suarez and develop their partnership further. Mind you had Suarez taken his chances then Liverpool would have won the game, so it’s worth bearing that in mind.

We’ve learnt that once again Everton’s fans, probably more than anyone in the country deserve answers. Aside from their win away to Blackburn Rovers this season, it’s been a nightmare start to the season for David Moyes. Losing their captain Mikel Arteta and unable to buy any players, the man resounded for ‘being the best manager in the league given the resources available’ must be getting frustrated with the club’s future.

Everton’s fans seem to share that view and before their 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at the weekend launched a peaceful protest outside Goodison Park before the game. The Toffees are a great proud club who deserve success and it’s just mind-boggling as to why the club hasn’t been taken over by an Arab led consortium of investors. How Blackburn managed to ‘find’ a set of new owners before Everton god only knows

We’ve learnt this weekend that right now Kevin Davies is one of the most hated men in football right now, after the tackle he made resulted in Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley being ruled out for a month. Whilst the challenge was ill-timed, the criticism that the England-forward (don’t forget he was capped last year v Montenegro)  has been abit OTT.

Fans should have known by now that Davies isn’t your normal forward and whilst he has ruffled a few feathers down the years, it’s a credit in a way to him that he is ‘disliked’ as by getting that reputation, it’s proved that he’s been able to play in the top-flight for as long as he has.

You may not like him, but there are far worse characters in the game to criticise and at the end of the day, United fans will just have to wait until the return-game back at Old Trafford to boo him non-stop, not that you get the feeling that will deter Davies who is used to not being liked. That’s football for you.

Lastly we’ve learn that Arsenal can last a league game without having a man sent off, that at least based on his goal at the weekend that the hype coming out of Ewood Park about Ruben Rochina might have something to it, that Norwich need abit more class up top if their nice-play’s going to get rewarded with goals, that Danny Sturridge has only added to Fernando Tores’ problems and that lastly Asamoah Gyan feels that playing for Al-Ain on-loan in the UAE apparently is a great ‘challenge’ for him at this stage of his career. He sounds very happy with his new pay-packet doesn’t he?

  1. We also learnt that Jonny Evans is a total dud and should not be anywhere near Utd's first team. Also, please tell Nani that while miracles do happen once in a blue moon, it's better to take the safe route and pick out the simple pass.
