Park Rewarded With New Contract Extension

After many weeks of speculation, it was annnoucned today that Manchester United’s dynamic midfielder Park Ji-Sung has signed a new two-year contract extension that will see him remain at Old Trafford until at least 2013.

Park has shone since signing from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2005 and over his six seasons in England has proved to be a key component in Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans ever since. His previous deal was due to run out at the end of this coming season so it’s great that the deal’s been done quickly.

Ferguson clearly delighted about the midfielder’s extended deal had this to say on the club’s official website:

“Ji has been an important player for us for a number of years now.

“He has great ability and energy and in recent seasons has added the knack of scoring important goals in big games. He is a popular member of the squad and his experience at domestic and international level is invaluable for the younger players.”

It is strange to think when he signed for United back in 2005, that despite his form for PSV, some pundits strongly doubted whether Park would be anything more than a squad player as they believed he had been signed purely to increase shirt-sales in the Far-East.

Of course the Korean has grown to be a key member of our squad and is certainly one of the ‘un-sung’ heroes of our team who more than often than not comes up with goals or big performances when the team need it most.

You can sense just how much it means for Park to play for us, by looking at what he said about the deal:

“I have enjoyed every minute of my time at United. I’m delighted to be part of the Club during this latest stage in its history – with another exciting young team being built. I’m looking forward to playing my part in keeping United at the top of the game.”

Let’s hope for United’s sake that Park continues to play well as through his unselfishness and work-ethic, more often than not his contributions to the cause have always helped the team reach their goals. It’s a credit to him that he’s become such a popular member of our squad and the longer he stays at Old Trafford the better.
