Anthony Martial and Antony among players expected to miss next two Manchester United games

Manchester United forwards Anthony Martial and Antony are among the players expected to miss the Red Devils’ next two games, i.e. against Leeds United and Barcelona.

The Old Trafford side are set to visit the Peacocks on Sunday (12 February) in the Premier League. In our previous fixture, we drew 2-2 at home with the West Yorkshire-based club without manager Jesse Marsch.

Man United went two goals down by the opening minutes of the second half against the Elland Road side. Thankfully, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho were on hand to salvage a point for us.

Antony was sidelined for that fixture. The Brazil international has been a bit underwhelming in recent weeks. His impact in the final third leaves a lot to be desired.

When the 22-year-old made his move to Manchester, it started off on an impressive note. The forward found the back of the net in all of his first three consecutive English top-flight matches.

Unfortunately, inconsistency has marred Antony’s time at the club. On the other hand, injuries have hampered Martial’s current campaign. The 27-year-old has often been unavailable for the gaffer to count on.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Erik ten Hag is not expecting the two forwards, as well as Scott McTominay, to be in the mix for at least a couple of fixtures.

“I don’t expect but we have some days, obviously. But I don’t expect it and if I can oversee it until now I don’t see any new problems coming up.

“Will they be back against Barcelona? I think same answer. I can’t say for 100 per cent but I don’t expect it.”

The Scotland international has lost his place to Casemiro in the current campaign. As a result, he has hardly featured for the Dutch manager. But with the injury crisis in the middle of the park and the Brazilian’s suspension, the 26-year-old could have evidently been a key player during this period.

Apart from Leeds, Man United will also visit Barcelona for the Europa League playoff round on 16 February. Hopefully, Ten Hag is able to put together a team capable of getting positive results.
