Manchester United have entered the race to sign Ajax youngster Frenkie de Jong, as per the Sun.

The 21-year-old is one of the best young midfielders in Dutch football right now. The report further adds that Tottenham and Barcelona are also interested in him.

United sent scouts to watch the player in the Netherlands’ UEFA Nations League game against France in the international break. (Sun)

The report claims that Jose Mourinho is a fan of the midfielder and the club are expected to make a bid for the Dutchman this January.

A United source was quoted by the Sun saying:

“Jose and the staff like the look of him. He can play in a few different roles and he looks comfortable wherever, which is a big plus.

“The scouts were already sure he is the real deal but his display against France only intensified that belief even further.

“He is a top class talent and it is clear to see why so many of the big teams in the Premier League and around Europe want him.”

Sun adds that the Red Devils hope their relationship with Ajax could help them in getting the player, as former United keeper Edwin van der Sar is their CEO.

The report suggests that de Jong is a fan of the Premier League. Mourinho could use that as a trigger and get him over the line at Old Trafford.
